Shinichi Kano is an otaku with a massive, encyclopedic knowledge of anime, manga, and video games. While he doesn't have any traditional job skills, his obsession proves to be his greatest asset when he is suddenly transported to the Holy Eldant Empire—a fantasy world populated by elves, dwarves, and dragons. Instead of being asked to fight monsters, Shinichi is appointed as an "Otaku Ambassador" by the Japanese government. His mission? To bridge the gap between Earth and this new realm by spreading "moe" culture to the masses.
As he navigates the politics of a magical monarchy, Shinichi finds himself teaching a diverse class of students, including the adorable half-elf maid Myucel and the young, haughty Empress Petralka. However, the path to cultural exchange isn't all sunshine and fan-service. Shinichi must grapple with the ethics of cultural imperialism, the resistance of traditionalist factions, and the realization that his government's motives might not be as pure as they seem.
Outbreak Company is a clever, high-energy take on the "isekai" genre that manages to be both a hilarious parody of otaku culture and a thoughtful commentary on cultural diplomacy. With its vibrant art style and a cast of charmingly quirky characters, it’s a series that proves that even the most niche interests can change a world.
