P.N.03 - Gamecube

P.N.03 — Product Number 03 — for the Nintendo GameCube is a third-person shooter directed by Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, and one of the most polarizing and cult-beloved games in the GameCube library. Set in a gleaming, minimalist space colony compound overrun by rogue robots called CAMS, players control Vanessa Z. Schneider — a mercenary in a spine-connected combat suit that channels energy through dance-like acrobatic movement — hired to destroy the CAMS and uncover the mystery behind why they turned against humanity.

The game's defining and divisive mechanic is that Vanessa cannot move and shoot simultaneously — a deliberate choice that turns every encounter into a tension-driven rhythm of firing, dodging, repositioning, and firing again. Combat rewards precision and patience over aggression: every shot must count, combo chains multiply score across rapid target switches, and energy drives — stylish special attacks performed with full-body animation — drain a power meter that must be carefully managed. Suits with different energy capacities and attack patterns are purchased between missions, giving the short campaign genuine replay incentive for score chasers and suit completionists.

P.N.03 was the first of the legendary Capcom Five — five GameCube-exclusive titles overseen by Mikami — and the only one that remained a GameCube exclusive, never ported to PS2. The team that made it later left Capcom to found PlatinumGames, whose Bayonetta and Vanquish are direct spiritual successors. The game received mixed reviews on release and failed commercially, but has since developed a cult following among players who appreciate its arcade-style discipline. A genuine piece of GameCube history and an essential title for Mikami and PlatinumGames lineage collectors.
