Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time for the Nintendo DS transports players to a world where Pokémon talk, form exploration teams, and venture into the unknown — and you are one of them. Having mysteriously transformed from a human into a Pokémon, your identity is determined by a personality quiz at the start of the game, with a partner Pokémon joining you to form your very own exploration team. Together you journey into randomly generated dungeons filled with enemies and treasure, uncovering the secret behind the Time Gears — mysterious artifacts being stolen by an elusive thief whose actions are slowly stopping time across the world.
Unlike the main Pokémon series, this is a roguelike dungeon crawler where you directly control your Pokémon through turn-based movement and combat, with every floor and item layout different each time you play. Explorers of Time is the companion version to Explorers of Darkness, sharing the same story and core gameplay while featuring different exclusive Pokémon — most notably the legendary Celebi, found only in this version. Two players can connect locally to trade, text chat, and tackle rescue missions together.
