In the Nintendo DS action-RPG Pokémon Ranger, players take on the role of a rookie Ranger in the Fiore region, tasked with protecting nature and its inhabitants through specialized missions. Unlike traditional trainers who use Poké Balls, Rangers use a Capture Styler to befriend wild Pokémon by drawing rapid circles around them with the DS stylus. These temporary allies provide unique Field Moves to clear obstacles—such as using fire to burn through logs or water to extinguish flames—and assist in more difficult captures before being released back into the wild. Accompanied by a permanent partner (Minun or Plusle), players must thwart the villainous Go-Rock Squad, whose plot involves using a "Super Styler" to control Legendary Pokémon for their own gain.
