Sabagebu Survival Game Club Blu-ray

Momoka Sonokawa has moved schools so many times she has stopped caring about making friends or fitting in. Her first day at Aogiri High follows an unexpected pattern: she is groped on the train, rescued by a beautiful armed stranger, assaulted by a platypus, and recruited at gunpoint into the school's Survival Game Club — an airsoft club whose president Miou will apparently stop at nothing to fill its ranks. What Momoka discovers is that she has a natural talent for airsoft combat that she absolutely refuses to acknowledge having, a competitive streak she also refuses to acknowledge, and five increasingly bizarre clubmates whose problems are about to become her problems. Notably, Momoka is not a nice person — she is petty, self-serving, and motivated almost entirely by revenge and personal advantage — and the series delights in letting its protagonist be exactly as awful as she wants to be, consequence-free, via elaborate fantasy battle sequences that visualize the club's airsoft matches as cinematic combat.

Sabagebu! is a 12-episode comedy series produced by Pierrot+ — a subsidiary of Studio Pierrot — directed by Masahiko Ohta and written by Takashi Aoshima, based on Hidekichi Matsumoto's manga serialized in Nakayoshi. It aired on Tokyo MX from July to September 2014 and is one of the more distinctive comedies of the mid-2010s, structured as a series of loosely connected sketches driven by a deliberately unsympathetic main character and a dry male narrator whose commentary is a consistent source of comedy. The series includes six OVA episodes included on the Japanese Blu-ray volumes. Released in North America by Sentai Filmworks as a Sub.Blu-ray Complete Collection on September 22, 2015.
