Story Origin: Noda has stated that Golden Kamuy was inspired by his fascination with Ainu history and his desire to create a story where Hokkaido’s harsh wilderness acted as a “living character.” He also drew on his grandfather’s experiences in the 7th Division, shaping the military storyline.

Cultural Collaboration: Noda consulted Ainu cultural experts — including linguists and historians — to ensure accuracy in language, hunting practices, clothing, and food preparation. This collaboration heavily influenced the manga’s famous cooking scenes and ethnographic detail.
