Yuji Sakai was an ordinary high school student living a quiet life until a sudden freeze in time shatters his reality. Trapped in a eerie crimson dimensional tear known as a "Fuzetsu," Yuji watches in horror as a monstrous Denizen from a parallel realm begins devouring human souls. Before he meets the same fate, a fiery-haired, ruby-eyed warrior wielding a massive katana cuts down the beast. She reveals a devastating truth: Yuji is already dead. His original soul was consumed, and he now exists as a "Torch"—a temporary lingering memory that will slowly fade away until everyone forgets he ever lived. However, Yuji discovers he is a rare "Mystes," possessing a powerful internal treasure that resets his existence every night. Teaming up with the nameless Flame Haze—whom Yuji affectionately names "Shana" after her sword Nietono no Shana—the duo enters a perilous alliance to balance the realms and fight back against the Crimson Realm's deadliest predators.

Based on Yashichiro Takahashi's legendary light novel series (illustrated by Noizi Ito) and produced by Studio J.C.Staff (Toradora!, The Familiar of Zero), Shakugan no Shana is one of the most iconic action-urban fantasy anime of the 2000s. Directed by Takashi Watanabe (Slayers, Rave Master) with a dynamic orchestral and synth soundtrack by Kow Otani (Shadow of the Colossus, Gundam Wing), the series set the benchmark for modern supernatural action and tsundere heroines. Released on a multi-disc Blu-ray and DVD combo pack by Funimation, this Season 1 collection features all 24 episodes alongside the beloved original Ocean Group Vancouver English dub created under the original Geneon release.
