Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers for the Nintendo 3DS is an enhanced port of the classic 1997 Sega Saturn RPG — making its Western debut for the very first time in this release.

Set in Amami City, a gleaming near-future Japanese metropolis built around a massive virtual network called Paradigm X, the story follows a young hacker and member of an underground collective called the Spookies. What begins as hacking into a closed beta quickly spirals into a dark conspiracy involving soul theft, corporate evil, and a demon named Nemissa who possesses the body of the protagonist's friend. Cyberpunk futurism and gothic horror collide in this first-person dungeon RPG where demons are not simply enemies — through negotiation you can recruit them to your party, then fuse them together to create entirely new and more powerful allies. The 3DS version brings substantial enhancements over the original: a new animated opening, full English voice acting, faster load times, animated battle sequences, and 3D dungeon exploration. Exclusive 3DS features include StreetPass demon raising and the ability to spend Play Coins to obtain rare and powerful demons.

Video Game Trivia: Cancelled US release

The Playstation version of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers was one of the few Megaten games that were almost released in USA... unfortunately, the release was cancelled by Sony at the last moment, after Atlus had already promised the fans to carry the game across the Pacific and translated the script!
