In Shovel Knight, the titular hero has retired to a life of solitude after his partner, Shield Knight, is lost to the cursed Tower of Fate. When the evil Enchantress and her Order of No Quarter rise to power and unseal the tower, Shovel Knight picks up his Shovel Blade once more to defeat the Order, rescue his beloved Shield Knight, and bring peace back to the land. Throughout his journey, he defeats each member of the Order and repeatedly clashes with his rival, the Black Knight, eventually discovering that the Enchantress is a possessed Shield Knight. After freeing her from the curse and defeating the evil spirit together, the tower collapses, and Black Knight saves an unconscious Shovel Knight, leaving the wounded Shield Knight to reunite with him by their campfire
