Sin and Punishment: Star Successor for the Nintendo Wii is a rail shooter developed by Treasure, the studio behind Gunstar Heroes, Ikaruga, and the original Sin and Punishment on Nintendo 64, and published by Nintendo. Set many years after the events of the first game, the story follows Isa Jo, the son of the original game's protagonists Saki and Airan, who is being hunted by a government organization for reasons tied to a mysterious young woman named Kachi that he has been assigned to eliminate. The war between Inner Space and Outer Space that began in the original has escalated dramatically, and the two are drawn into the center of a conflict that spans multiple Earths.
Players control either Isa or Kachi, each with distinct combat approaches. Both characters move freely around the screen as the rail carries them forward, shooting a targeting reticle at enemies using the Wii Remote pointer. A lock-on button provides slightly reduced power but easier targeting, while free aiming delivers full damage. A melee sword slash dispatches close enemies and deflects projectiles back at attackers. Characters can hover for aerial positioning or stay grounded to earn a score bonus. Chaining consecutive kills builds a score multiplier, and deflecting enemy fire back to destroy them yields additional point bonuses on top of the base multiplier. Online leaderboards track scores globally after each stage. The game supports Classic Controller, GameCube Controller, and Wii Zapper configurations in addition to the standard Wii Remote and Nunchuk setup.
The game holds an 87/100 on Metacritic. IGN UK gave it 9.2 out of 10, calling it "an awesome slice of bullet heaven." IGN US gave it 9/10 with an Editor's Choice award. It is the final entry in the Sin and Punishment series. The game is a Wii exclusive.
