Steins;Gate for the PlayStation Vita is the award-winning science fiction visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitro+, and one of the most celebrated entries in the entire visual novel medium — a time travel thriller that begins as a quirky slice-of-life comedy and gradually transforms into one of the most emotionally devastating stories in gaming.

The story centers on Rintarō Okabe, a self-proclaimed "mad scientist" and founder of the Future Gadget Laboratory — a cramped Akihabara apartment shared with his childhood friend Mayuri and the hacker prodigy Daru. When Okabe stumbles onto what appears to be a real time travel discovery at a conference, he finds a young woman named Makise Kurisu lying dead in a pool of blood — and then wakes up to find her alive, with no one around him having any memory of what he witnessed. This impossible contradiction sets in motion a conspiracy that spans parallel world lines, a shadowy organization called SERN, and the horrifying personal cost of rewriting time.

Steins;Gate is presented as a pure reading experience — a visual novel with branching narrative paths driven entirely by the player's choices. The core interaction mechanic is the Phone Trigger system: Okabe receives text messages and phone calls from characters throughout the story, and responding or ignoring them — and how and when — determines which world line the story follows and which of the game's multiple endings is reached. There is no combat, no exploration, and no puzzle solving — only the slow, deliberate accumulation of tension through exceptionally written dialogue, rich character development, and a plot that builds with the patience and precision of a thriller novel. The PS Vita version features enhanced visuals over the original Xbox 360 release, full voice acting in Japanese, and a hauntingly atmospheric soundtrack that is considered among the finest in the visual novel genre.

Originally developed by 5pb. and Nitro+ and released in Japan in 2009 for Xbox 360, Steins;Gate was brought to PS Vita in North America in 2015 by PQube and JAST USA — becoming the first official English physical release of the game outside of a digital PS3 port. It is part of the broader Science Adventure series alongside Chaos;Head and Robotics;Notes, and was adapted into a critically acclaimed anime series in 2011 that itself became one of the most beloved anime of the decade. The game has since been released on nearly every modern platform, but the PS Vita version remains a beloved physical collector's piece for fans of the series and the visual novel genre alike.
