Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 for the Game Boy Advance is a charming and surprisingly deep action-RPG that blends real-time combat with weapon crafting and a heartfelt story. Players take on the role of either Edgar or Aera — two young apprentice Craftknights living in Cliff Village — who must protect a mystical seal trapping Goura, an impossibly powerful stray summon creature whose containment is beginning to crack. The Craftknight system is the beating heart of the game: weapons are built by gathering materials from defeated enemies and breakable objects scattered throughout dungeons, then forged by combining your hammer with the power of your Guardian Beast. Four Guardian Beasts are available to choose from at the start of the game — each with unique combat abilities, spells, and distinct personalities that color the dialogue and story throughout. Each weapon type plays differently in real-time combat: axes hit hardest but swing slow, spears offer extended range, drills pierce armor and defenses, and swords balance speed and power. The story is fully self-contained and requires no knowledge of the first game, making it a great entry point into the Swordcraft subseries. Published in North America by Atlus, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 is a rare and sought-after GBA title that flew under the radar on release but has since built a devoted following among fans of the genre.
