Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord for the PlayStation 3 is a strategy RPG and visual novel hybrid developed by Aquaplus and published by Atlus, set in a world inspired by ancient Carthage and the Roman Republic. Hamilcar Barca, a young man from the subjugated province of Hispania, discovers he carries the blood of the Overlord, a legendary being of immense power feared by the ruling Holy Empire. When the Empire moves to use him as a weapon, he escapes captivity alongside the spirit Tarte, a divine messenger, and takes up leadership of the Barca resistance movement. The story follows Hamilcar as he rallies the people of Hispania, forges alliances across the western provinces, and challenges the might of the Holy Empire in a conflict that mirrors the real historical clash between Carthage and Rome.

The game blends an extensive visual novel narrative with tactical grid-based battles, balancing the two modes across a campaign that runs approximately 40 to 60 hours. Dozens of named characters join Hamilcar's army over the course of the story, each with individual stats, class abilities, and story relevance. Strategic positioning on the battlefield, elemental weaknesses, unit synergies, and terrain all factor into combat outcomes. Between battles, lengthy visual novel sequences advance the story through fully voiced dialogue scenes in Japanese, covering political intrigue, character relationships, and the broader war narrative. The game stands entirely self-contained and requires no knowledge of the original Tears to Tiara, which was set in a different world.

Originally developed by Aquaplus for PS3 in Japan in November 2013, Tears to Tiara II was localized and published by Atlus in North America on October 14, 2014. The game is a standalone story completely separate from the first Tears to Tiara game. Push Square called it "an impressively ambitious title" and praised its depth. The combination of detailed historical mythology, large cast, and lengthy campaign makes this one of the more content-rich SRPG visual novel releases on the PS3.
