Lina Inverse is a teenage sorceress of extraordinary destructive capability, mercenary ethics, and a bottomless appetite. She steals from bandits, blows up anything that gets in her way, and is feared across the land as the Dragon Spooker and the Enemy of All Who Live. Her companion Gourry Gabriev is a swordsman of unparalleled physical ability and approximately zero intellectual capacity, carrying the legendary Sword of Light and faithfully missing every implication of every conversation he is ever part of. Together they stumble into three consecutive world-ending crises spread across three seasons: Season 1 pits them against the sorcerer Rezo the Red Priest and the demon lord Shabranigdo sealed within him; Season 2 (Slayers Next) deepens the franchise's mythology with the introduction of Xellos the Mysterious Priest, whose agenda is never entirely clear, and the demon lord Hellmaster Fibrizo; Season 3 (Slayers Try) takes the cast into uncharted territory beyond the world's barrier, introducing new enemies and the most dramatically ambitious arc of the original trilogy.

The Slayers is a three-season fantasy comedy franchise produced by E&G Films, directed across all three seasons by Takashi Watanabe — who also directed Freezing Season 1 & Vibration and Shakugan no Shana — based on Hajime Kanzaka's light novel series serialized in Dragon Magazine.

The original series aired in 1995; Slayers Next was 1996; and Slayers Try was in 1997. The franchise is one of the most beloved and commercially successful anime of the 1990s, winning the Animage Anime Grand Prix multiple times and selling over 22 million light novel copies worldwide.

The English dub was originally produced by Software Sculptors / Central Park Media; FUNimation re-recorded the dub with an entirely new cast when they re-licensed the series. Megumi Hayashibara — who voices Lina Inverse — performed all six opening and ending themes across the three seasons.

Originally released in North America by Central Park Media on VHS from 1996 and on DVD from 2000; FUNimation released individual season DVD sets beginning August 2007, followed by The Complete First Three Seasons box set on August 4, 2009, collecting all 78 episodes across ~1,725 minutes.
