Time and Eternity - Playstation 3

Time and Eternity for the PlayStation 3 is an animated JRPG developed by Imageepoch and published by NIS America, notable for being the first game to feature fully hand-drawn 2D character animation across all gameplay and combat sequences. On the wedding day of Zack, a knight of the kingdom of Kamza, and Princess Toki, a group of assassins interrupts the ceremony and kills Zack in the chaos. In his final moments he discovers that Toki carries a second personality within her, a bold and aggressive woman named Towa, who uses secret time magic to send them both back six months into the past. Zack wakes up inside the body of Toki's pet dragon Drake, and must help her prevent the assassination and uncover who ordered it.

The game plays out across two distinct modes that alternate throughout the adventure. In town and exploration sections, players navigate as Zack while building relationships with characters through dialogue and decisions that affect the story's outcome. In combat, control shifts to either Toki or Towa for one-on-one real-time battles where switching between the two personalities is possible once unlocked. Toki fights at range with a rifle and elemental spells, while Towa specializes in aggressive close-quarters knife combat. Enemies attack in turn, and a well-timed dodge negates all damage, while blocking reduces it. The character designs are by VOfan, the Taiwanese illustrator known for his work on the Monogatari light novel series, and the soundtrack was composed by Yuzo Koshiro, known for Streets of Rage and Etrian Odyssey.

Originally released in Japan by Namco Bandai in October 2012 under the title Toki to Towa, the game was localized by NIS America for North America on July 16, 2013. The game received a limited edition release with additional art and DLC content. It is the first and only entry in the Time and Eternity series. Yuzo Koshiro's involvement and VOfan's artwork are the strongest selling points for buyers who follow either creator's work.
