Centuries after Armageddon, two races share a shattered world: ordinary humans called Terrans, and Methuselah — vampires with greater strength and longevity. The Vatican governs human civilization; the New Human Empire rules the east. Between them: an uneasy non-war held together by politics and assassination. Father Abel Nightroad is an AX special operations agent for the Vatican — clumsy, cheerful, perpetually broke, and secretly a Crusnik, a being that feeds on vampire blood and transforms into something terrifyingly powerful in combat. Alongside him are Sister Esther Blanchett, an Albion novice whose convictions are tested at every turn, and Father Tres Iqus, an android priest whose loyalty is absolute and emotional range is not. The AX team operates in the shadow of a conspiracy older than the organization itself.

Trinity Blood is a 24-episode supernatural action series produced by Gonzo — the studio behind Hellsing, Gantz, Basilisk, Strike Witches, and Rosario + Vampire — directed by Tomohiro Hirata, written by Atsuhiro Tomioka, scored by Yoshihisa Hirano, and based on the posthumously published light novel series by Sunao Yoshida, illustrated by Thores Shibamoto, published under Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko label. Yoshida died in a traffic accident in July 2004 before the novel series was complete; the anime aired from April to October 2005 and adapts the first several arcs of the novels, ending before the story's resolution. The anime is notable for its visual design — Thores Shibamoto's elaborate character illustrations translate into unusually detailed costume and production design, and the series' Gothic Catholic aesthetic is among the most distinctive in the genre. The English dub was produced by FUNimation with Troy Baker as Abel Nightroad. FUNimation released the Viridian Collection 4-disc Complete Collection on March 24, 2009, collecting all 24 episodes at 528 minutes.
