Way of the Samurai 3 - Playstation 3

Way of the Samurai 3 for the PlayStation 3 is the third entry in Acquire's beloved open-world samurai action series, set in a fictional village called Amana during Japan's turbulent Sengoku period. Three major factions are locked in a power struggle over the region: the ruling Fujimori clan, the peasant rebel army known as the Ouka, and the newly arrived imperial Kurou clan. A wandering masterless samurai enters Amana with no allegiances, and every subsequent decision players make over the game's short but deeply replayable runtime determines whose side they take, which characters live or die, and which of the game's fifteen distinct endings they reach.

Combat is a physics-driven sword fighting system where spacing, parries, and timing matter more than button combinations. Over 100 swords are available to acquire, each with unique length, weight, attack speed, and special moves. Weapons degrade and break through extended use, and new swords can be found, purchased, stolen from enemies mid-fight, or acquired by completing specific story routes. A crafting system lets players modify and repair equipment between sessions. Beyond the central story, side activities include training, gambling, jobs, and relationship-building with Amana's residents, some of whom can become allies, rivals, or romantic interests depending on player choices. Each playthrough typically takes two to three hours, designed to be completed multiple times to see the full picture of what the game contains.

Developed by Acquire and published in North America by Agetec on October 13, 2009, Way of the Samurai 3 was the first entry in the series to reach a Western audience since the original Way of the Samurai on PS2. The series is known among fans for its extreme replayability and the way small decisions cascade into dramatically different outcomes. A fourth entry, Way of the Samurai 4, released in Japan in 2011 and in the West in 2012 on PS3 and PC.
