Yamada’s First Time - Blu-ray

Yamada is a beautiful first-year high school student with an ambitious and extremely specific goal: have casual sex with 100 different boys before graduation. She has identified a critical obstacle — she is a virgin — and has determined that the best solution is to find an inexperienced boy she can practice on without the pressure of being judged. Her target: Takashi Kosuda, a quietly plain classmate from the photography club whose complete averageness she interprets as a nonthreatening starting point. What Yamada does not anticipate is that proximity to a real person she actually talks to will complicate the machinery of her plan considerably. Each attempted advance collapses under the combined weight of her own insecurity, Kosuda's obliviousness, and the interference of the small super-deformed deity of desire that appears periodically to observe her strategic failures. Across 12 episodes, the series tracks her pursuit of a goal she cannot quite execute and the relationship that forms despite her best efforts to keep it transactional.

Yamada's First Time: B Gata H Kei is a 12-episode romantic comedy produced by Hal Film Maker and based on Yōko Sanri's four-panel manga serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2004 to 2011.

The series is notable for inverting the typical gender dynamic of teen sex comedies by centering a female protagonist whose stated ambitions are explicitly sexual while the actual content remains firmly in the romantic comedy register.

Both opening and ending themes were performed by Yukari Tamura — who also voices Yamada.

The FUNimation Blu-ray presents the complete series in its uncensored home video version, which differs from the broadcast cut.
