Ys: The Ark of Napishtim - PlayStation 2

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim for the PlayStation 2 is the sixth mainline entry in Nihon Falcom's beloved Ys action RPG series, following the red-haired adventurer Adol Christin as he washes ashore on a remote island chain called the Canaan Islands after his ship is destroyed by the Great Vortex. Stranded with no memory of how he arrived, Adol discovers an island populated by a peaceful people called the Rehda, a race of beastlike humanoids who regard outsiders with deep suspicion. As Adol ventures across the island chain uncovering ancient ruins and the mystery of a legendary artifact known as the Ark of Napishtim, the boundaries between the human and Rehda worlds become harder to ignore.

The gameplay is fast real-time action combat centered on three elemental swords — Livart, Ericcil, and Zirduros — each tied to a different element and capable of being charged into powerful magical burst attacks called Emelas. Combat rewards aggressive play and precise timing, with Adol's speed and combo potential rewarded far more than defensive play. The Falcom Sound Team jdk's rock-driven soundtrack, composed for the original PC version, carries over in full and remains one of the series' most celebrated scores.

The PS2 version is the definitive release of Ark of Napishtim, adding full English and Japanese voice acting, FMV sequences, and an exclusive content suite absent from the original PC version: Alma's Trials challenge mode, an additional dungeon area called Crevia, and the unlockable Catastrophe Mode where healing items cannot be purchased, pushing players toward a more demanding run. Developed by Falcom and published by Konami in North America on February 22, 2005. A remake was released in 2024 on modern platforms under the title Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim.
