Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour - Nintendo DS

Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour for the Nintendo DS was the first Yu-Gi-Oh card game released for the system, arriving in August 2005. The game follows the arc structure of the original anime series across its first three seasons, running from the early Duelist Kingdom days through Battle City, the KaibaCorp Virtual World, and the Shadow Game sequences that define the series at its most high-stakes. Rather than controlling Yugi or any named protagonist, you play as a silent duelist building a reputation by challenging the cast as you encounter them around the city.

The game's opponent roster moves through the full anime ensemble, starting with accessible duelists like Tea Gardner and Serenity Wheeler before working up to Yugi Moto, Joey Wheeler, Seto Kaiba, Ryou Bakura, Marik, and the rest of the Battle City field. Winning duels earns points used to purchase card packs and expand your deck. The card pool reflects the state of the game around 2005, and the Egyptian God Cards — Slifer the Sky Dragon, Obelisk the Tormentor, and the Winged Dragon of Ra — are obtainable and playable in the game despite being banned from real-world competitive play. A choice between Slifer and Obelisk presents itself partway through, with Ra available later through trading.

The DS touch screen handles deck building and duel controls, making the interface feel purpose-built for the hardware. Konami developed and published the game, with a North American release on August 30, 2005. Nintendo DS cartridges are region-free and will play on any DS, DS Lite, DSi, or 3DS system.
