Those Who Hunt Elves is a gloriously absurd isekai comedy manga written and illustrated by Yu Yagami, serialized in MediaWorks' Dengeki Comic Gao! beginning in 1994 — making it one of the earlier entries in what would eventually become the massive isekai genre. Three very ordinary Japanese people find themselves stranded in a high fantasy world: Airi, a glamorous and sharp-tongued actress; Ritsuko, a high school girl with an obsessive love of firearms; and Junpei, a martial arts meathead who charges at every problem head-first. They've also accidentally brought along Airi's fully operational Type 74 military tank. Their ticket home is a magical restoration spell — but when the ritual goes sideways, the spell fragments scatter and embed themselves onto the skin of five random elves across the land. The only way back to Japan: find those elves and, well, check their bodies for spell fragments. By stripping them.

The comedy here is essentially a one-joke premise that Yagami somehow sustains across 21 volumes without running dry, because the real joke is never just the stripping — it's the collision of cultures. Airi deploys celebrity charisma on confused medieval villagers. Ritsuko treats every situation as a tactical problem best solved with ordnance. Junpei remains enthusiastically, catastrophically stupid in every language. And the elven sorceress Celcia, who is nominally guiding them and increasingly regretting it, gets the best comedic punishment in the series when a spell mishap traps her in the body of a dog for an extended stretch. Yagami's cartoony, energetic art sells every punchline, and the series has a loose, improvisational energy that keeps each chapter feeling fresh.

The series was adapted into two 12-episode anime seasons in 1996 and 1997 by Group TAC — both available in English through Sentai Filmworks — and remains a beloved cult title of the mid-1990s fantasy comedy boom. ADV Manga released the first seven of the 21 Japanese volumes in English in 2004 before the license lapsed, making those seven volumes the only English-language editions in existence. A fun, shameless, thoroughly entertaining piece of 90s anime and manga history.
